'''Yiannis Laouris''' is the Lead Scientist and Chair of [[Future Worlds Center]] in Cyprus. He joined ISSS for the first time in 2004 during the Crete conference on the invitation of [[Kenneth Baush]] and [[Alexander Christakis]], where he presented [[Information technology in the service of peacebuilding: the case of Cyprus]]; peace and conflict work conducted in Cyprus between 1994 and 2004<ref>Laouris, Y. (2004). Information technology in the service of peacebuilding: the case of Cyprus. World Futures: The Journal of General Evolution, 60(1-2), 67-79.</ref>. He and [[Marios Michaelides]], along with several Turkish speaking Cypriots, played a key role, as Member of the Cyprus Conflict Resolution Trainers Group<ref>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus_Conflict_Resolution_Trainers_Group Cyprus Conflict Resolution Trainers</ref> in creating an embryonic peace movement using [[Interactive Management]] as introduced by [[Benjamin Broome]].

==Early life==
Laouris was born in Paphos, Cyprus, in 1958. He attended The English School, the Pancyprian Gymnasium, and the Acropolis Gymnasium. He served in the Cypriot National Guard as the first Cypriot senior cryptographer after the 1974 Cypriot coup d'état and the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus. He graduated from the medical school of the Karl Marx University (today known as University of Leipzig), enjoying three parallel scholarships because of his top grades, and completed a PhD in Neurophysiology with summa cum laude with Prof. Peter Schwartze at the Carl Ludwig Institute of Physiology. Laouris and his wife Joulietta were the first students to be awarded a PhD before graduating from university, an achievement that received press coverage.<ref>Newspaper coverage of the Laouris' Doctorate, https://futureworlds.eu/wiki/Vitae/Yiannis_Laouris/Newspaper_coverage_of_the_Doctorate</ref> He continued his neurophysiology research at the Georg-August University Göttingen with cyberneticists and systems physiologists Professors Hans Diedrich Henatsch and Uwe Windhorst, studying the dynamic behavior of the motor axon-Renshaw cell, and muscle afferent subsystems. Laouris pioneered the application of digital signal processing in time/space and frequency domains. <ref>Laouris, Y., & Windhorst, U. (1989). Muscle & nerve, 35(2), 135-158. https://doi.org/10.1002/mus.20712</ref> etc. In the U.S., he also completed a Masters in Systems and Industrial Engineering. More recently, he completed a PhD in Systems Engineering at Portsmouth, UK<ref>https://researchportal.port.ac.uk/en/studentTheses/structured-dialogical-design-frameworks-for-addressing-complexity</ref>.

==Contributions in reforming education to the needs of the digital era==
In 1992, Laouris decided to devote a decade of his life to a vision he called CYBER KIDS.<ref>CYBER KIDS</ref> The project involved the development of a cybernetics-based innovative<ref>Laouris, Y. (2014). Teams construct knowledge during project-driven social interactions. Educating in Dialog: Constructing Meaning and Building Knowledge with Dialogic Technology, 24, 111-113.</ref>, team-, project based curriculum that was grounded on the concept of KnowledgePacket to construct lesson plans that required collaboration and comprised of multiple dimensions, including the value for real life, mental development, creativity, etc. By 1999, CYBER KIDS reached 15,000 children in Cyprus, i.e., 20% of the country’s youth population (ages 6–15) and contributed against brain drain by employing almost 200 young scientists. In 2005, Laouris founded the Cyprus Safer Internet Center<ref> Cyprus Safer Internet Center https://futureworlds.eu/wiki/Cyberethics:_Cyprus_Safer_Internet_Center</ref> to promote the safer use of internet across Europe. Yiannis is one of the twelve experts commissioned by the Digital Tasks Force of the EU to develop the ONLIFE Manifesto<ref>Floridi, L. (2015). The onlife manifesto: Being human in a hyperconnected era (p. 264). Springer Nature.</ref> <ref>Laouris presenting the ONLIFE Manifesto at the European parliament https://youtu.be/lWRW2sSqVGU</ref>.

==Contributions in Dialogic Design Science==
Yiannis promotes the application of broadband technologies and [[Structured Democratic Dialogue]] as tools to bridge the digital-, economic-, educational- and interpersonal divides on our planet. He is an international leader in the development of theory, methodology and tools to support the science of structured dialogic design. He formulated the dialogic design [[Law of Requisite Action]]<ref>Laouris Y, Laouri R, Christakis A (2008) Communication praxis for ethical accountability; The ethics of the tree of action. '''James N [Jamie] Rose.'''<nowiki> Joined ISSS in 1997.
78 yo (2025), Resident of Minden NV. Emeritus theorist in General Systems Theory since 1972, presenter at USA/international conferences since 1996 in the fields of General Systems, Complexity, Emergence, Cybernetics, Information Theory, Biology. [including ISSS, NECSI, ASC, WOSC, Russian Academy of Sciences RAS (by invitation of Prof Vladimir Lepsky), PRC Science Academia (CAS) at the personal invitation of Prof Wu Jie)].

Rose identifies that a Kuhnian shift is called for in science and conceptual modeling, especially in the current era of hyper exponential cross-connecting of many information influences and resources.

Rose has proposed expanded math modeling to generalize entropy beyond thermodynamics as a first order distribution and communication process - this being key to unifying existing energy and information modelings per Clausius, Boltzmann and Shannon. Rose also recommends a modification to essential mathematics -- expanding the definition of exponents to be considered fully "dimensional" in appropriate circumstances. Scalar considerations are retained in specific computations, but the addended expansion is required to account for Complexity relations among emerging hierarchies of organization. He states that a better math bridge is needed between levels of computation which can only be made with this conceptual adjustment.

Rose also explores justifications to fully coordinate seemingly disparate mechanisms of the universe (inanimate vis a vis animate) - their shared properties and motivators~drivers for behaviors, interactions and development. Dimensional transforms of information among different qualia in nested tiers of complexity require a "next frame of reference" consideration. The universe is a Communications Phenomena before all else --- of many different types, but a shared set of Relations Patterns, Dynamics, Rules of Performance (subtly different from "laws of nature" as conventionally held). In an added shift linguistically, Rose recommends that the spectrum of alternatively performing systems be recognized as "pre-animate through animate" rather than "inanimate vs animate". There is no "biological overlay" recommended. Biological interactions do not occur without their basis~relations being pre-present in the quantum performance relations realm first.

Nothing is 'unconnected' in "fully companioned existence". This strongly infers current math & "relations languaging" is "adequate", but missing concepts recognition~translation framing and a more rationally navigable manifold of properties and deep connections which are well associated rather than incompatible.

Rose's shifted perspective is proposed as the first true all encompassing "THEORY OF EVERYTHING" ... spanning dimensional spacetime on through sentience and conceptualizing consciousness. Extant math models still hold. But, Albert Einstein and Buckminster Fuller already shed illumination on underpinning "form is function" verity by identifying "gradiented stress tensors" in both primal spacetime and in physical material EM bonded architectural structures. The scientific establishment already acknowledges those continuum relations behaviors ... prior to quantum depictions and also bridged by quantum qualia. Rose's depictions spotlight the attributes and mechanisms involved.

That is, no new 'law of nature' is needed to explain negentroepic complexity in opposition to energy entropy (towards disorder). The original associations of energy and work, as previously identified and defined 'entropy', still hold as valid and computationally correct, but, the Integrity Paradigm model holds all interaction transforms as "work" and recognizes pre-eminent "distribution~dissemination" --- happening in all noted levels of organization --- generate expanded "new engagement loci" for the energies and informations involved. It is "New Opportunities Locations" ... being the basis for profound new communicating interactions ... which present and enable "complexity coordinating states and conditions". Those are not reached without diffusive spreading via a universal General Entroepic gradient differential -- present within every level of organization. Complex Order is the natural "product of disorder" ... when conditions and parameters are met. No new 'law or meta-law' of nature is required.

[Note amended spellings of: 'entroepy' and 'negentroepy' ... to distinguish the General Property of fields gradients versus specialized thermodynamic work capabilities which _reduce_ over time with repetitive dissipations.]

The "INTEGRITY PARADIGM" theory steps up as a first viable hypothesis that looks to achieve the goal of a "General Theory of Systems", per von Bertalanffy et al. [SGSR/ISSS]. .. inclusive of, but expanded beyond, Physics.
THIS IS THE FIRST TRUE ALL ENCOMPASSING .... "THEORY OF EVERYTHING".PROPOSITION

==Personal Life==
Born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA June 30, 1947. Parents were Lillian F Rose (d, 1978) and Milton Bernard Rose (d 1948) ; adopted by father Benjamin Rose.

==Special Interests==
J N Rose is Chair of the 'International Society for Systems Sciences' [ISSS] Permanent Topic Group:
GENERAL SYSTEMS '''MATHEMATICS AND LANGUAGING [SIG]'''- SPECIAL INTEGRATION GROUP.
From the very establishment of SGSR / ISSS "Society for General Systems Research",
it was not lost on von Bertalanffy that it is critically important for a true viable and
communicable universal "general theory of shared systems properties and attributes
and performings" that it satisfy science depictions in mathematics And then, for clear
human practical uses and comprehensions it also be comfortably expressible in
natural languages as well. Good understandable descriptions in daily conversant
languages people use world wide ... as best as possible ... regardless of cultures.

von Bertalanffy devoted a full chapter in his closing opus "General System Theory"
to the ideas of 1930's linguist~chemist Benjamin Whorf ... who explored and exposed
the importance of concepts sharing in well defined words to deal with specifics,
generalities and conditional details.

J N Rose, the first Chair of the General Systems Mathematics and Languaging"
SIG independently, cited and foundationed his systems explorations also based on
Benjamin Whorf's astute ideas about 'best possible human communicating
skills and practices ... especially important for quality science'. (paraphrased)

To that end, in support of ISSS members work towards true cross integration and
cross fertilization of ideas and understandings among silo'd topics and concepts,
the Gen Sys Math & Languaging SIG was established to promote those necessary
and important conversations.

SGSR started with scientists well versed in mathematics, but without concepts
unifying their many specializations. 70 years later. we have members closing in
on improved unifying natural language descriptions, but less verse in mathematics.

The SGM&L SIG serves as our in-house clear conversation space to achieve
maximum accuracy and competence in describing General System Theory.
It is the agora center from which ISSS will take our achieved concepts out to
the science and public communities world wide.

==About the Book==
The book is an integrated, unified approach to modelling engineering systems including control system and thermal effects for the computation of thermal transients and will appeal to all readers interested in a novel approach to the fundamentals of engineering systems. The classification of variables into through (force, current...) and across (speed, voltage...) leads to the construction of multidisciplinary networks which act as the unifying agent for modelling engineering systems from mechanical, electrical, fluids and thermodynamics disciplines. Network models admit non-linear functions such as relations involving temperature and entropy flow. A general treatment of energy conversion is given which models dissipation and heat transfer as external to internal and internal to internal energy converter. It then becomes possible to compute the increase of entropy arising from dissipation and temperature transients illustrating the operation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics. The performance of signal converting devices are described. Differential equations of change of state are derived from network models including those of control systems using topology which enable computations of steady state and dynamic conditions of multidisciplinary, engineering systems. Stability of systems is considered followed by the introduction of an aspect of systems design for countering environmental disturbances, for example. The notion of 'one-dimensional variable' is introduced leading to 'field representation' of engineering systems. A general theory of 'engineering systems components' is developed which through simplifications, describes 'environments' and 'amplifiers'. Aspects of 'analytical mechanics' of Lagrange are used for the development of differential equations of change of state which describe, for example, the performance of capacitances or inductances in motion. The method presented in the book shows the points at which 'conventional science' of physics enters 'systems science' i.e. at the stage of network elements. It shows an integrated representation of multidisciplinary control systems and through the notion of 'network models' brings these systems closer to the 'physics of situations'. This and many worked examples facilitate understanding of the subject matter. Teaching of the topics presented in the book was carried out for a number of years and many examination papers and examples are available. The method encourages application of computers for analysis and design.
'''Creating Linguistic Modelling of Scenarios: (the means of paradigm change from the systemic view to systems science)''' by [[Janos Korn]] ....

==About the Book==
Linguistic Modelling of Scenarios proposes a paradigm change from the 'systemic VIEW' to 'systems SCIENCE', so as to extend the methodology of conventional science of physics into the domains hitherto beyond the reach of this kind of treatment. The book: I Identifies the problematic issues in current approaches to the 'systemic or structural view' of parts of the world as opposed to the 'quantitative/qualitative views' of conventional science of physics and the arts whereby introducing the 'third culture'. II Locates the position of the structural view in the context of 'human intellectual endeavour'. III Discusses the fundamental questions raised by modelling aspects of human behaviour. IV Introduces the basic ideas and the symbolism of linguistic modelling which are then applied to turning descriptions of scenarios as a story or narrative into reasoning schemes. V Describes a methodology of 'problem solving' of which design thinking and the operation of purposive systems are seen as essential ingredients. Problem solving is a universal activity of living in particular human beings through innovation, invention and creativity. Lack of this activity leads to death! Problem solving is regarded as pivotal point which may propel the spread of the modified structural view into social, technical, cultural and educational awareness. VI Shows the location of aspects of conventional science within the scheme of systems science whereby achieving a 'continuity of the scientific endeavour'. VII Outlines a teaching scheme for 'linguistic modelling'. Janos Korn explains how a view can be converted into a science which can lead to a possibility of 'organised speculation' or simulation of behaviour, exploring the effects of variation of parameters on performance, and the occurrence of outcomes of operations, beneficial or not, of dynamic structures. Static and dynamic structures are expressed in more rigorous and computable terms so that the results of analysis and design of human activity scenarios could be exposed to at least thought experiments. Linguistic Modelling of Scenarios is an informative read for any professionals, teachers and students of engineering, social science, management, business and production.
==About the Book==
Any part of the world can be viewed and modeled in terms of its chosen qualitative and/or quantitative properties OR its structure. The first approach has been used by nearly the whole of ‘human intellectual endeavor’, i.e. conventional science of physics, the arts and so on. Development of the second or the ‘systemic view’ or ‘systems thinking’ is the subject of the current work. The purpose of change is problem solving suggests that the ‘structural view’ is empirical, pervasive throughout experience and as such results in a single domain as opposed to conventional science which consists of many domains like mechanics, electricity etc. Thus, a unique approach or ‘systems science’ is needed which is based on ‘six principles of systems’ translated into operational form by the symbolism of processed natural language called static and dynamic ‘linguistic modelling of scenarios’ which can carry the relevant aspects of conventional science with mathematics and uncertainties. A kind of unified presentation of science has been achieved.

'''General Systems Theory''' (GST) is a framework that analyzes systems, both natural and social, by focusing on the interconnectedness of their components rather than individual parts. It emphasizes a holistic approach, considering systems as complex entities and recognizing their capacity for interaction, adaptation, and self-regulation. Ludwig von Bertalanffy pioneered the theory in the 20th century, influencing fields like psychology, sociology, and ecology.

YOU:MATTER has been created by artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast for the National Science and Media Museum as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture. It is an immersive art experience designed to engage your senses. The exhibition features dynamic soundscapes, varied lighting effects—including darkened areas and bright lights—and mirrored flooring. According to [[James N (Jamie) Rose|Jamie]], this exhibition sparks General Systems Thinking and helps us in promoting our grand global modeling imagery; which under girds systemics modeling by linking all phenomena together. Overall, this exhibition promotes broad public education awareness about the importance of recognizing how everything in the universe is interconnected and we humans are part of that web.
'''The Science of Synthesis: Exploring the Social Implications of General Systems Theory''' by [[Debora Hammond]] explores the development of general systems theory and the individuals who gathered together around that idea to form the Society for General Systems Research.

==About the Book==
Debora Hammond's The Science of Synthesis explores the development of general systems theory and the individuals who gathered together around that idea to form the Society for General Systems Research. In examining the life and work of the SGSR's five founding members-Ludwig von Bertalanffy, Kenneth Boulding, Ralph Gerard, James Grier Miller, and Anatol Rapoport-Hammond traces the emergence of systems ideas across a broad range of disciplines in the mid-twentieth century.
Both metaphor and framework, the systems concept as articulated by its earliest proponents highlights relationship and interconnectedness among the biological, ecological, social, psychological, and technological dimensions of our increasingly complex lives. Seeking to transcend the reductionism and mechanism of classical science-which they saw as limited by its focus on the discrete, component parts of reality-the general systems community hoped to complement this analytic approach with a more holistic orientation. As one of many systems traditions, the general systems group was specifically interested in fostering collaboration and integration among different disciplinary perspectives, with an emphasis on nurturing more participatory and truly democratic forms of social organization.

The Science of Synthesis documents a unique episode in the history of modern thought, one that remains relevant today. This book will be of interest to historians of science, system thinkers, scholars and practicioners in the social sciences, management, organization development and related fields, as well as the general reader interested in the history of ideas that have shaped critical developments in the second half of the twentieth century.
'''Science and Design of Problem Solving Systems''' by [[Janos Korn]] ....

==About the Book==
The book is about an empirical, systems theory of a general, systemic/structural view of parts of the world integrated with creative problem solving procedure with the latter generating a ‘product and systems’ design method. As an alternative to the speculative and fragmented nature of current ‘systems thinking’ and practice, the book proposes three principles of systems: ‘Generality/nested hierarchy, changes of equilibrium states and problem solving/purpose’ together with ‘linguistic modelling’ using processed, natural language or transformation of narratives of scenarios into sequences of logical conditionals, the executor of the principles. Implementation of the creative, innovative, inspirational stage leads to ‘design parameters’ which guide the detailed design of systems and products defined as any entity capable of generating interaction. Uncertainties and mathematical models are introduced at the object/agent level as required. The theory is ‘property driven’ i.e., uses qualitative, quantitative properties including social, emotive and other mental states. Elementary, systemic or structural properties are ‘1 - and 2 – place simple sentences’ which can lead to operational representations when appropriate. Meaning preserving, linguistic transformations convert a narrative or story into such sentences. A user driven approach to the analysis of ‘information’ is introduced. Recent paradigm changes and problematic issues in current ‘systems thinking’ are reviewed. The theory is based on accepted branches of knowledge such as linguistics, network theory, biology, physics, chemistry, social science as needed, it is highly teachable, introduces linguistics in addition to mathematics as a symbolic model and can inspire further research. It introduces four criteria for judging the ‘soundness’ of symbolic models. However, it needs peer review, software development to work out the dynamics of scenarios and further developments for applications to more practical problem situations in organisations, technical and natural circumstances.

==Personal Life==
Born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA June 30, 1947. Parents were Lillian F Rose (d, 1978) and Milton Bernard Rose (d 1948) ; adopted by father Benjamin Rose.

==Special Interests==
