''Special Integration Groups''' are not special interests groups!

Special Integration Groups may, however, jointly focus on common interests (at a distance) over the year, and/or join in formal discussion at the [[ISSS Annual Meeting]].

Over the years, many Special Integration Groups have been formed, developed, evolved, and maybe gradually declined and or ceased operating. This page has been created to keep their work, stories, and findings alive through a process of active and dynamic documentation. Any [[ISSS Member]] has the right to an account in this crowd-sourcing [[Media Wiki]] platform and is encouraged to update pages.

==Role of SIGs at ISSS Annual Meetings==
Traditionally, groups congregating in designated sessions at an annual meeting were placed into one of the following categories:

# SIGs represented in Council, that have been ratified by the Board of Directors, and have scheduled at least one paper session within the past two annual meetings;
# Exploratory Groups, which typically convened at an annual meeting. They may come together only once or twice and then disband, or they may self-organize for later formal recognition as a Special Integration Group. A SIG chair used to have voting authority as a member of the ISSS Council, whereas Exploratory Groups are not represented in Council. This has been aborted in the latest Bylaws.
