The Students Special Integration Group was created following the 2025 ISSS Annual Meeting and officially launched in early 2026
Focus of the Student SIG
The ISSS Student Special Interest Group (Student SIG) exists to support students and early-career researchers as they navigate the challenges of advanced study while developing a practical grounding in systems theory. Its primary aim is to provide guidance, perspective, and community for those undertaking PhDs or similar qualifications, particularly where research crosses disciplinary boundaries. The SIG combines mentoring support from experienced systems scientists with opportunities for students to learn how systems ideas can be applied to framing research questions, integrating knowledge from multiple fields, and communicating their work effectively.
In addition to mentoring, the Student SIG is developing introductory systems theory and generalist skills training through online resources and collaborative activities. The intention is not only to help students succeed in their studies, but also to prepare them to become thoughtful contributors and future leaders within the systems community. The group is run by students for students, with experienced members acting in supportive mentoring and advisory roles.
