Roelien is currently Director of the | Roelien is currently Director of the Research Unit for Data Science and Computing at the North-West University in South Africa. She lectures Database Optimisation and Unstructured Databases with Cloud Computing. She has a passion for teaching Computer Science, especially Programming. She has supervised 18 Master’s and 6 PhD students to completion and currently supervises another seven PhD students and two master’s students. Her research focus is on Critical Systems Thinking and she has published more than ten journal papers on critical systems thinking and the applications thereof. | ||

Her focus on Systems Thinking lead to her involvement in the International Society for Systems Sciences, where she currently serves as the vice-president for Research. This organisation promotes the use of systems sciences to understand and improve complex problem situations in all spheres of life.
